MMIWP Awareness with Nicole Merton
Updated: Oct 23, 2023
Nicole Merton is an indigenous photographer, based out of Anaheim, CA. She focuses her photographic work on the MMIWP Movement (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & People). Her work consists of cultural photography and recordings of untold stories, told both visually and vocally.
"Each portrait I capture I want to encapsulate the emotion they are feeling in that moment because this is a time of reflecting, healing and sometimes a moment for mourning."
Nicole has dedicated herself to be an advocate for the movement and travels all over the country to document and create voices for the ones who are no longer here, and to the families.
Nicole’s photography project, Here, Our Voices: Our MMIP Movement, has been an ongoing work for about two years and she plans to continue this project for as long as she can.
You can see Nicole's movement project, and the untold stories of those who are no longer here at her upcoming exhibit.
